STATEMENT
Nature is my primary inspiration. Painting has become the process through which I come to understand the magical color and light of our natural world. I am drawn to vibrant pigments to emphasize and sometimes exaggerate the colors I see in the landscape. In my recent work, I have especially been experimenting with interference and iridescent paints and metallic materials to help capture subtle color changes and reflections. I also incorporate abstraction and pattern to evoke a sense of memory as opposed to a strict representation of a specific place.
BIOGRAPHY
Nicky Belletier grew up in the bucolic surroundings of Syracuse, New York. She was drawn to the arts at a young age and envisioned a life as an artist. Despite her love of drawing and painting, she also developed a deep interest in science which led her to complete a bachelors degree in Biology at Bryn Mawr College and a PhD in Molecular Biology at Princeton University. In the midst of her scientific training, she also studied drawing and printmaking during a semester abroad through Temple University Rome.
After completing her PhD, she established a career in scientific writing and has rededicated herself to her childhood vision of being an artist in its most basic sense. That is, to live a life filled with experiencing and making art. In pursuit of this goal, she experiments widely with new materials as she fills her home studio in Hopewell, New Jersey. Her work has been shown in local and regional exhibitions through organizations such as the Phillip’s Mill Community Association, Trenton City Museum, Hopewell Valley Arts Council, Philadelphia Sketch Club, and others, and is in the collection of Princeton University and many private collections.
