STATEMENT
An advertising photographer for 35 years. I am now photographing my own personal projects. My main focus for the last eight years has been photographing the East Coast of the United States from Maine to Key West.

Went to Brooks Institute studied cinema and still Photography. Had an advertising photography studio for 35 years now shooting my own personal projects.
STATEMENT
I received my first camera at age six, majored in photography in college, worked as an assistant to photographers in NYC for several years, opened a studio in 1980 and shot commercial/advertising work for 35 years. Since leaving the commercial world I have worked on numerous personal projects. For the last seven years I have been shooting the US east coast from Key West to Maine. My intent with this project is to evoke emotion, love and respect for wild places near the sea.
BIOGRAPHY
By age eight, Richard was making portraits and still life images with his Kodak Brownie camera. He studied imaging at Brooks Institute in California where he switched his major from cinema to still photography. In 1972, Richard relocated to New York City where he worked for several years as an assistant to many of New York’s best advertising photographers while also working on several artist grants and solo shows. In 1980, with photographer Toby Richards, he opened Richards & Speedy Studio, where they and their team produced many award-winning image campaigns for clients such as Sony, J&J, Benetton, Medtronic and AT&T. Since then, Richard has pursued a wide variety of subjects and imaging possibilities both in the studio and in the world at large. For a several-year project, Richard traveled by foot and horseback for weeks at a time to explore and photograph the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua, Mexico, also known as the Barrancas del Cobra or Copper Canyon. Richard has lived for extended periods in Sonora, Mexico and Taos, New Mexico, and now resides in Hopewell, NJ.
